The MP-5 was first used by GSG-9 in action against terrorists who had hijacked a lufthansa aircraft on October 17, 1977 and flown it to Mogadishu, Somalia. It was also prominantly displayed in pictures of the SAS takedown of the terrorist-held Iranian Embassy in 1980. The MP-5 has seen action in US operations such as the grenada and Panama invasion, and has only recently seen it's eventual succesor, the M4 (CAR-15 model 727) come online.

MP5K A shortened MP5 designed to fit in a brief case. There is no stock, but a foregrip handle has been added. MP5K A1 MP5K lacking aiming sights for minimum size and maximum concealability. MP5K A4 MP5K with new 3-round burst trigger group. MP5K A5 MP5K lacking aiming sights utilizing the 3-round burst trigger assembly. MP53 A MP5 that has been chambered for the 5.56 round. MP5/40 A1 A MP5 that has been chambered for the 40 S&W round.
