Welcome to my Volvo page - Always Under Construction...
My personal car was an ivory 1981 Volvo 242DL that I bought for $200. Needed new wiring harnesses, a new alternator, and a new instrument cluster. It started out as your usual 242DL with sunroof, 4-speed+O/D manual transmission, and power steering. I did a few upgrades, including upgraded sway bars, power door locks, and windows, and grey velour interior, turning it into a 242GLT. It had 292,703 miles on it when I sold it in 2001 to a friend's father... Replaced it with a silver 1982 242 Turbo that my dad and I picked up for $250.00. Transferred most of the items I wanted from my '81 over to the '82. Sadly, the silver '82 was totalled by a Dodge RAM pickup on November 30th, 2002. Replaced with a much nicer black '82 242 Turbo in early December of that year. Which got wrecked twice. No longer on the road. Replaced with an '83 245Ti that has 328K miles on it, which was sold, after I picked up a silver '85 245Ti from a buddy who needed work done on his 242.
My parents both have had Volvos also. Both owned 245 wagons. My father owned a blue 1984 245GL wagon that we bought brand new in May of 1984. Sold seven years ago for $3000. My father got his beige 1985 245DL from my mother in the spring of 2000. That car was sold in 2005. He used to drive a gray '87 744 Turbo with 214,000 miles that was previously owned by my sister. That car has been sold, and he now has another 1984 245GL, this time in gray.
Our first Volvo was a Cumberland Yellow 1974 145E wagon with 3-speed automatic, B20F engine, and brown vinyl interior. It was bought new in August 1974. We traded it in on our blue '84 wagon at 111,605 miles.
