I'm officially putting together a semi-regular lan party. Somewhere near my place, (Renton, WA) quarterly or more often, aiming for a couple dozen people. If you're interested in helping this happen, let me know. Tentative launch is after the holidays.
It's too late. I can't take it back. Here's a picture of what is now my car. (I might come write more about it all later, right now I should be working.)
So, a friend gave me a nifty reversible furoshiki, and this morning I was running late, cycling down steep hills and to the bus, and somewhere along the way it fell out of my pocket. Which was sad, but I'm optimistic about being able to recover it later today. In related news, I stopped by Bartell's today, and found something which claimed to be a "flour sack towel," but it was obviously an inexpensive furoshiki. Two edges of it are selvage, it wads up to almost as small as an ipod, costs about as much or less than some "green bags" yet is far more versatile. I wonder how much it would cost to produce 1-yard square pieces of fabric with a custom print of assorted furoshiki folding methods on it.
Indeed, all is well. After retrieving the furoshiki, I waited for the bus at the bottom of the great hill. When it lumbered past, I saw its mandibles were already full with other travelers' bicycles. I found myself faced with the daunting task of scaling the great hill with only my single, punishing gear that shall not be named. Somehow, I was able to survive the ordeal, after which I promptly fell into a tub of sub-tepid water. Now I must continue forumlating my plans for making four-nation-themed furoshikis.
Ok, I think I've had enough... fun with updates today. Hopefully I've gotten that out of my system for a while.
Went and got myself a birthday bicycle. Found it on craigslist. (from some guys that run a shop where they rebuild and otherwise work on bicycles.) It has a nice sturdy lugged steel frame, brand new wheels, and only one gear. (Which I still haven't picked an intimidating name for.) Riding a fixed-gear is very different, and a great workout, if not always fun.
It is almost summer, right? I'm not complaining about the weather, but is has been a little less warm than one might expect.
Yeah, I'm fine. Update burnout. Saw sumo, saw a temple, blah blah blah.
Way too many pictures. I'll get them up... sometime. Asakusa was pretty neat.
Oh man! I nearly forgot about Sumo! Hopefully when the box office opens in the morning I can get some tickets and get in. (today was sold out, and the last two days are already sold out, so cheap seats tomorrow are my only chance. I've got my fingers crossed.)
Whoa, double entry.
Well, my first full day was nice, if tiring. In the morning I ran and grabbed a ¥300 umbrella and checked out Akihabara when half the stores still weren't open. After a little break and the rain had stopped, I walked around for at least two hours before I finally came across an appropriate Tokyo Subway entrance for a trip to visit Sunshine City. well, at least the first coupla floors of it. It's most or all of four buidings, plus multiple floors underground. Later, when half the stores were closing, I went back to Akihabara to shop for mice, (still haven't decided, but this laptop has absolutely horrid buttons on its touchpad,) and failed to find Ōuendan.
Sorry, no pictures, I'm a poor (quality) tourist, and nothing really caught my eye. I might go revisit and grab some later.
This morning I woke up with some kind of insect bite on my side under my shirt. Suspiciously flea-like. Once I obsessively search my bedding, today might be laundry day.
And apparently the garbage pickup around here is a little involved. I'll have to get some more details now that my grocery bag is closer to full. It's interesting, I've done more eating at am/pm than anywhere else so far. Having no real language skills, it's so much less work to just walk in, grab something off the shelf in the refrigerated section, and go pay for it. Also: Clif bars are wonderful.
Ok, it's just after 7 in the morning, there's sun, and I need to hunt down my trains for a Shibuya visit. I'll try to pull out the camera this time.
Quick "I made it" post. Pictures after sleep.
Depending on my mood, I might make a more gallery-like page for these. meanwhile, here they are...
Long time, no update, but I'll make up for it. In a handful of days, I will be in the future. Well, across the dateline at least. Two whole weeks in Tokyo should be quite interesting. And even gives me an excuse for regular updates for once.
Oh, and vegan is still too much work. Instead I've settled for an iron will. Now I just need to get myself up early enough to pack more meal into my mornings instead of my evenings.
An, another year come and gone. Almost time to pay taxes.
I think I'm done with MMO games. And I'm back to living vegan, since that seems to be the only way I can consistantly be responsible with my culinarial choices. (Isn't making words fun?) Also, nutritional yeast is pretty neat.
I really like Reverse Polish notation. I'm suprised it took me this long to install a new calculator.
I've been playing quite a bit of Eve Online and Team Fortress 2 lately. Both fun games for different reasons.
Ah, fall. Clearly the best time of year.
Making a giant paper mache gold ring, planning a deer chaser fountain, wearing cool new shoes (from Zappos) at last, working on new pants and cars, and generally keeping on.
So far I'm mostly surviving the "scorching 80 degree heat" of western Washington. I keep telling myself cooler weather will mean getting more exercise. We'll see just how wishful that is in a couple of months. Either way, I'm contemplating having some kind of hooping event at the new park, even if that means having to go outside. p.s. made a rather large hoop. I like to call it "godzilla"
I think I've found the best wallet ever. At very least it'll last longer than the paper project I enjoyed so much.
Food poisoning and emergency room bills are no fun. At least some doctors are cute. If only someone would find the cure for the common cold.
Never did manage to plan any bash for my birthday. I think I'll just retain it as an excuse to have a party sometime in the future.
So I found some debris, a hole in the wall, and something around a 9mm bullet slug in my bathtub. My tub was unharmed, though I won't be showering there for a while. (I hope repairs become a bit more speedy.) Not officially planning to move yet, we'll see how thing pan out.
I need to figure out what I want to do for my birthday this year. Turning a nice, round number I might as well do something special. I'd just do a hula-hoop making party, but not everyone is into that kind of thing. Maybe I'll try to use that new park that had better be open by then.
Wow, practically April.
After quite a few years, I've finally gone out and gotten a cell phone again. Mainly because it was cheap, without contract, and since I would have appreciated having one the last time my bus got stranded in the snow as it was just getting off the freeway. For the record, if you need an inexpensive phone just in case, Virgin Mobile has decent prepaid plans as long as you don't go around chatting it up. And if you don't mind fairly bad customer service, and really annoying "stuff" you could waste money on if their website ever worked enough to let you see or hear what you were browsing through.
My latest bread was whole wheat with some added wheat germ for that extra something special. I was happy with the results. Maybe while I'm across the mountains with my sister next week I can get some more baking in.
I put a little sticker on my glasses today. (unfortunately?) That's all I have to say about today, though.
So far I've been sick, injured, and busy, but I like the new year nonetheless. Kind of like some fresh-ground black pepper; it's irritating, yet tasty.
Reminded myself how much I enjoy preparing edible things. I just wish I had a chest freezer. Well, that and a place to put it.
Got all the way through December without succumbing to illness. Maybe some not-really-baked potato will help me feel a little less icky. I just noticed that I don't have a [vegetable] peeler or a paring knife. At least I have a new movie and a Wii for some company. Hopefully I'll feel well enough to enjoy new year's. (yikes! New year's!)
It's a thunder-snow storm! I'm really glad I ride the bus. I ended up walking past three of them on the way home when the snow was getting thick. I imagine everything else will come to a screeching halt tomorrow morning, unless it warms up just as freakishly as it thundersnowed.
By the way, 3M makes these awesome little clips that are perfect for indoor christmas light decorating. They aren't cheap, but neither are paint jobs or damage deposits.
I feel like I should sign up for Google's AdSense, or something.
So, a Whole Foods just opened up right by where I work. Wow. This is quite a country to live in.
And finally started reading A Series of Unfortunate Events, which has been fast and fun. It's nice to know some of the later books are thicker than some of the earlier books.
Nothing special's really happened, unless you count the gradual transition towards my favorite season. As is often the case, I seem to be on the verge of quite a few things, but not really any more so than usual. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
I plan to replace my car sooner or later, and I believe I'm willing to settle for just about anything (I can afford) that will last a reasonable period of time. The main point of it isn't necessarily moving myself around, what with bussing to work and all, so I figure I shouldn't be quite as stringent as I might otherwise be wont to.
Thanks to a visit to "the Puyallup", I now have a nice nail file, some honey, and no precarious excess of cash in my pocket. Beware the unfair fair fare fares. And Smart was there. All I need now is a big raise.
My 10 year highschool reunion was pretty cool. In case you were wondering, bowling with a pinched nerve in your back is a bad idea. Must be time to take some time and visit a doctor, and see exactly what I should and shouldn't be doing.
Looks like I'm buying a bus pass for the next month. Still haven't made any other transportation decisions, but things are rolling right along.
Well, I made it. Learned some things about the accordion, and some things about myself. If I never hear another polka, I won't mind too much. If I go back next year, I don't think it will be for the full weekend.
Leavenworth is nice if you can ignore the cars constantly driving by your cheap hotel room. Time to go and try finding myself a hat to keep the sun off the less than hairy spot on my head.
I guess I'm 29 now. And I found an accordion. Student sized, so the keys are tiny, it was cheap, and it doesn't weigh much.
I've made my very first motel reservation over in Leavenworth. So unless I entirely chicken out or something, I'll be going to the International Accordion Celebration later in June. I'm also going to Oregon with sister and father, and I'm trying to come up with something I'll have time to do for my birthday. (I have to use up some vacation time before July rolls around)
I recently decided my favorite cartoon is Avatar, though I think I'll be able to resist the temptation to get cable or an ipod to watch it on.
I'm already wondering if moving into an apartment with southern exposure will prove to be really annoying this summer. I just hope the 80 degrees yesterday isn't a preview of an even hotter hotter season.
Well, I'm in Starbucks while my bathtub is resurfaced. I plan on doing some sewing today, and seasoning my wok, visiting the site of a new park that's going to be built soon, and generally relaxing. Hopefully I'll have time to get to to that last part.
It's almost scary how nice the weather's gotten. After this winter, I'm half expecting it to suddenly change to a week of solid drear with no warning. Well, I should conserve my battery and get out into the big wide world.
Who would've thought a position:relative would fix my float's order in IE?
Got my closet rod, so I've resumed unpacking. Though soon I'll be unable to use my tub while they fix a big ol' crack they didn't notice before. Hopefully I'll have a bunch of boxes gone and things close to normal soon.
Spent all sorts of time thinking deep thoughts lately, which has been "fun". And my books have remained nice and balanced. Hopefully things like a new motorcycle chain, and accordion, and sooner or later a car won't throw that off. Oh yeah, and the toaster I think I'm finally getting. Seems like a good excuse to get a Fry's card, not that I'll use it much.
For some reason, I've been seeing more typos than usual. Often keys come out in the wrong order, less often missing or added. Probably still getting over all the move and related. Getting my sleep more normal couldn't hurt too much, either. At least it's typing, and not driving erratically, or dropping heavy objects on my toe.
Watching time slip through my fingers as the end of the month and my move approaches. Maybe I'll take off a day next week to get ready. (and of course the monday that's the last day I have for getting out of my current apartment.) Unfortunately, I just realized I won't be getting a bicycle immediately since I'll have a new deposit to pay. At least that means a bit more time as I'm determining exactly what I'm interested in getting.
Also been having a lot of fun reprogramming bits and pieces of the World of Warcraft interface. I don't know why, but I'm just having a blast writing the code and making widgets and all that.
bad picture of a cool cement truckYikes. Woke up Wednesday with a fever, which made it up to 103 on and off over the next few days, finally gone on Saturday. I've had the flu in the past, but I can't remember being quite that sick. I just hope I'm not feeling beat down for too terribly long now that I'm past the super-ick part.
for the record, a propane torch doesn't make very good toast. Either that or I was in too much of a hurry.
Well, I tried making toast, and wound up disabling my fire alarm and then turning on a fan and throwing away my toaster. Apparently it's time to get a toaster oven.
And I might be coming down with something.
Oh, and for some reason it's cold. Which is unfortunate, because I've been wanting to get along with getting a bicycle. It's been too long since I last had one. I'll just use the meantime to find someone I can ride around with when the weather gets warmer.
"New" means they took the contact paper off the cabinets, gave them new hinges/doors and some paint, and put in a larger bathroom mirror with no stowage. Though sooner or later I'll have to move either way, so it's more just waiting for a decent unit to come available. So sometime in the future I'll be going into a different apartment in the same complex.
It seems like every week I spend one day eating way too much. At least yesterday it was for a good reason. I mean, there was cornbread. And dips.
Oh yeah, and I finally jumped my motorcycle and got the battery happy again, just in time for some nice weather. Definitely a better commute to work.
Not much to report, really. Got my W2 from work, so I'll be ready to pay the tax man next month. Speaking of, I think it's about time to sign a new lease for my apartment. Speaking of, apparently I've been selected for a chance to move into a "new" unit. Not sure what kind, or what exactly "new" means and how much it costs, but that might be neat. I'll find time to talk with them sometime soon and find out.
I still need to finish redoing my budget to try and pay off some things sooner. Maybe before, but definitely by my birthday I might finally manage to get an accordion. Oh, and I almost forgot about getting a bicycle. I wonder how long it'll be before I can afford a new tooth.
Where in the world did January go?
So I've gone and finally gotten a watch. Simple, not big, analog, and interesting after so many years without a dedicated timepiece. I just hope it lasts, as opposed to me ripping it off as I walk through a doorway, or otherwise destroying the poor thing.
Made myself a sort of nifty calendar to hang on my wall. If you want to give it a try, it was tweaked for printing out nicely from Firefox onto a sheet of 11x17 paper. Though that was on a slightly old version, but theoretically should still be fine.
Well, back to wondering where the times goes. Next thing you know, I'll have paid off various things, and bought myself an accordion… (here's hoping) Speaking of unrelated things, I should get around to fixing my space needle country picture so that it actually matches everything.
Yes, I got the new bed. However, it was from the "as is" department, so I'll thank you in advance for not bringing it up and reminding me about the time and money I still have to put into it in the form of bedding and getting rid of the smokey smell it picked up while being sat upon by loads of miscellaneous people. I'm sure I'll be happy to share about how nice it is once I'm sleeping in more normal bedding and no longer waking up with a headache and scratchy throat every day.
Yesterday I had the day off, and I actually managed to rustle up a couple of friendly people to go to Seattle just like I wanted to. Even went up the (former) Columbia Tower, visited the Seattle Public Library, bought fortune cookie defects, and stopped by Uwajimaya. It was so nice to go someplace and see stuff. I stopped to play DDR, but I didn't want to stand around waiting for the (somewhat funny to me) people who were there leaning on the bar dancing songs that weren't too exciting. I wish I had thought to grab my binoculars for the view from the tower. It was fairly grey, and pretty clear. I think the best part was probably getting spend time with people I don't usually get to.
Now that I'm back at work, there's stuff to deal with, but no real emergencies. Between that and almost everyone being gone, it's pretty nice for work. For some reason, we've had all sorts of printers fail over the past few weeks. Fortunately, we have quite a few so it hasn't seriously cramped anyone's style that I know of. It just seems odd.
Woo, the ultimate in cheap cameras! When you plug it in, it even acts like an equally cheap webcam! Though I've yet to figure out how to get it to sit at any given angle. It must be time to start my artistic black and white photography hobby. Or something.
I know where I'd like to go sometime soon.
At the City Centre, you'll find a magical Gingerbread Village on display through Jan. 3, 2006. Six of Seattle's top architecture firms have teamed up with Seattle Sheraton Hotel and Towers' culinary staff to design, bake and build gingerbread displays and holiday creations reflecting this year's theme: "A Charles Dickens Holiday." The Gingerbread Village is free to the public and raises money through donation for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Got some fun groceries yesterday. Baby spinach greens, egg nog, fixings for tasty homemade soup, spices for cider, and jumbo rolls of TP. Though the TP wasn't technically part of the fun.
Wow, the holidays are here and almost gone! Now if only I could afford that new bed. Pretty much everything else is on hold meanwhile. Apparently my motorcycle took a fall recently when the ground was all iced up; good thing it handles the ground well and wasn't likely to kill me since noone bothered to leave a note when they picked it up.
So not the happiest holidays, but that's alright. I've got plenty of things to enjoy, like potatoes with cheese and sour cream and chili.
Stuff's happening. Piano and furniture is moved, bed is practically decided on, checking account is in the black, father and sister going to Hawaii, motorcycle all tuned up and happy, freezer full. I think I can still get a bicycle, but I'm probably going to have to (continue to) put off the accordion. Maybe I should make a big gingerbread house for fun.
Life's been somewhat busy, and pretty normal. Still moving furniture, not much closer to replacing my bed, enjoying the not-warm weather. Still waiting to move a piano, and maintain my motorcycle, and toss a boat, and get a bike, and get an accordion. My disappearing tooth disappeared the rest of the way. At least the normally visible part. Oh yeah, I'm thinking about bussing to work this winter. I live right next to a really handy express line that drops just blocks from work.
I've been thinking about downsizing my bed for awhile now. For years my apartment has been basically a big bedroom, (that happens to have a kitchen and bathroom attached,) which has severely limited its usefulness for things besides loafing around and sleeping. Not to mention the fact that my large bed has kept other furniture along the heater wall, rendering thermostats annoying at best. The interesting part is, there's someone at work looking for a bed and a desk for a friend moving into the area, which gives me the perfect chance to move mine out to make room for… something.
Now the question is: what will it become? I'm probably going to move all sorts of things back into the alcove where my bed currently is. It wouldn't suprise me if I pick up some cheap couch-a-ma-bed thing. Just a little while ago I was thinking about doing some quilting to have something comfy and washable to toss over for sleeping. It should be interesting completely reworking my living space for the first time. Maybe I'll have to throw a (small) party afterward. Hmm. Should I aim for Christmas, or be safe and do Easter, or my birthday, or something?
Not that long ago, I ate entirely too much sugar. It was early, I was working on stuff, and I wound up conking out until the middle of the night, when I'm writing this and finishing stuff.
I got just over half done with my bedlam cube, and now I've lost steam. mostly because of the time commitment to putting a piece together, partly because I've been busy. I hope to get most of the pumping and scrubbing done on my boat tomorrow, (today,) and then make a couple of phonecalls this coming week.
There's a notice posted on the doors of the building about vehicle towing this week during parking resufacing. The only problem is, the "areas indicated" are indicated very poorly, so I can't decide whether I should move my vehicle(s) or leave them in their place. I'll have to go ask the office if I can catch them tomorrow.
For some reason I've decided to make myself a paper cube puzzle. You know, the kind with all those pieces that you try to assemble back into a cube. 13 pieces, thousands of solutions, and invented / named after some guy named bedlam. That would certainly be an interesting name to have. When I'm done, it'll be about six inches to a side. Assuming I can put it together, which remains to be seen. I've heard stories of people never solving thiers for years, but I have decent spatial reasoning, and with over 19,000 solutions it can't be that hard, right? Heh.
Made strawberries and biscuits yesterday. Yum. Oh, and that rice pudding turned out fine, though I've determined that it isn't anything special, really.
Well, the weather's been hot, had some rare wonderful gray, been eating lots of brown rice, organized my hanging files, got another half of a crown on a tooth, otherwise life's been relatively normal. Unless you count…
Chocolate Armageddon! cookies. Probably not a sign of the end, but not a bad way to go. Chocolate cookies, dark tobelerone chunks, chocolate chips, set on the darkest chocolate I could find, with a bit more of that piped on the top in cute little mushroom clouds. Whenever I say the name, I tend to say it like it's written up there. Just seems appropriate.
And besides making cookies, I spent yesterday at home being kind to my lower back, which wasn't the happiest. It seems quite a bit better so far, so if I'm careful today and this weekend it should be back to normal when next week arrives.
Tested the pudding, and it wasn't bad at all. A little too much rice, some changes in instructions, but sometime next week I'll try a revision and see what happens.
My fretted 5-string bass battery box disconnected again, so I'm leaving it in the case for awhile. If I just fix it again, I won't be making progress. If I add thicker wire, it might help, but I still have to worry about the already melted plastic parts. I'm reluctant to get an entirely new battery thing of the same style, for fear of more problems, and I don't really want to pay for or have to do the routing and such necessary to put in a different style of battery thing. Besides, it'll be fun to play my fretless for awhile, even if my intonation might bother a person or two.
Another day, another root canal. Though the not quite numb filling in of nerve canals was quite the experience this time. Even filled in a little web of accessory canals at the very tip of the root, which looked pretty cool on xray. I feel like I'm becoming a dental patient pro; too bad I can't get paid for having my teeth worked on. Ok, maybe that wouldn't be such a good idea, even if I could.
I just finished making a recipe for rice pudding. Though I haven't yet had a chance to try making it. Dare you?
I've decided that large chunks of ice are neat.
My latest diversion involves taking a partly filled cup from the water cooler at work, freezing it, and using it to ice a mug of coffee, tea, or whatever else strikes my fancy. The exciting part is trying to drop such a big piece of ice into a mug without a gigantic mess. Sure, I could just use a spoon or something, but what fun is that?
For anyone who might want to know: I pulled apart a GBA-GCN cable, and it is not possible to charge a GBA SP while still connected to a Gamecube. (at least with first-party stuff) Though the little clippy part of the cable is packed with all sorts of cool surface mount electronic goodness. Technology is neato. I suppose if you were really desperate, you could remove the plug from the PCB, and carefully solder in some wires, and run them out for some inches and then hook them up to the plug, but I say that would be all exposed, ugly, and otherwise not worth the work.
Stopped by Goodwill yesterday after work, and after wandering around, came across two cool shirts. (thanks, God.) No pants that I could find. Though I suppose I should be looking for shorts, or something to mercilessly alter into shorts. Oh, and I've decided to put off any accordion purchases for the forseeable future.
I think it's safe to say that summer is here. Even when it's been wet, the weather has pretty much refused to get cold, despite my hopes.
As usual, the 4th was a somewhat odd day for me, though for once I spent it all in once place. Got to see some semi- far off friends' new house, and ride around in paddle boats and such at Bonney Lake.
Tomorrow I get to finally spend all sorts of money and start payments at the dentist's. I guess that's a good thing, as little as I enjoy spending money. At least it's for a good cause.
Ok, I officially dislike certain browsers. Beware floats! If you must, feel free to ask me for advice. I think I'll go do something that isn't absolutely not fun for awhile.
July is upon us! I wonder how things'll be this year with fireworks banned in Renton.
This morning something felt off in my mouth, so I took out the floss, shredded a bunch, and suddenly there was more room to floss and a little piece of tooth left over from all the excitement yesterday. Much better.
Also this morning, I've decided to try carrying my not-quite-fancy fountain pen instead of the plain/inexpensive stick pens I've been using lately. Just so long as it doesn't end with a mess like my last similar attempt.
For some reason, I've found myself almost confused at times with the difference between effect and affect. For no good reason. Just a moment ago, I almost got mixed up on then and than. Hopefully it's just some temporary effect from having my teeth drilled and filled and all that. Then I could enjoy the lapse knowing it'll be back to normal eventually.
Went with dad and sister to see the new batman movie. (fun, etc.) Now I almost can't help but think of it when I suit up and ride my motorcycle. Don't worry though, no effect on my speed or manner of driving or anything like that. Taking monday off work after a morning dental appointment for lack of a better day. I almost had a great idea of what to do, but I'm not sure what it was.
I recently applied for a larger line of credit to cover dental expenses, and for whatever reason wound up getting more than I asked for. So now I have enough to cover the dentist without spending so much that my rate or rating would automatically get worse. Also received some free general advice from someone in the know when I called to check on the whole situation. I'd think it's safe to say the only person I have to thank is God.
It's been far too long since I last had a cup of tea. I'm much better now, thank you.
I have about one week to take at least a day of vacation or forfeit one day's worth of time. Should I just pick a day and be done with it, or should I actually pick something interesting to do and find a day I could do it on? I'm open to possible day off activity suggestions. I suppose I should at least set myself a deadline of Friday for the paperwork. So there. I'll choose a day and fill out the paperwork by Friday.
I sort of find it amazing that some people spend as much time in front of their television as I spend on my computer and playing video games. Though I suppose many of those people would feel the same way about me. Don't get me wrong, I can enjoy a bit of America's Funniest Home Videos now and then, (I guess,) but between the commercials, the writing, and the whole short-attention span-ity of it all, I can always find a preferrable way to spend my time. Like cleaning my kitchen. (amazingly enough) Actually, I've gotten some good cleaning in lately. It doesn't hurt that I hardly make use of those facilities, though paying for dental work might change that a bit. I'm still working on how best to deal with my motorcycle gear and miscellaneous fun things. (kites, balls, et c.) I think this is the least resolved note I've ended on in a while.
New shower curtain, first new towels ever, plugged and snaked out kitchen plumbing, more cleaning, small but wonderful personal revelations, fun movies… Gosh, life is sure interesting.
All but the capping of my root canal is done. Not overly painful considering, but quite the experience. Also spent hours finding a good way to get the stuff link on the left to be clickable in IE. It would really be nice if that browser were fixed to work more correctly, but who knows when that might happen. To be fair, I had similar problems with certain things in Firefox, but those were things that I normally woudn't have done if I weren't already working around other problems.
Thinking about what it's going to take to get a new(er) car, and what form it may take. I'm still stuck on small hatchbacks with manual transmissions and reasonable price tags and fuel efficiency, so at least the field is narrowed that much. It's also time to take the motorcycle in, and contemplate further downgrading to an overall more economical one. The catch is trying to do these things while maintaining a healthy account balance which I've gradually worked towards over the past while. A bit boring, but important.
Got some Ikea furniture recently. A real bookshelf and a rolling tv cart with space for games and such. And then I had the first half of my first root canal. Just in time for my birthday, even. I guess it's at least nice to be finally dealing with my dental situation. Can hardly wait to get the bookshelf all up and filled, and move along with organizing things at home.
Somehow I still find it almost amazing how satisfying a bit of creative expression can be. I'm not always in the mood for something like that, and occasionally I have to do just the right thing, but when I do crank something out, it's downright sublime. Of course, it's even better when doing something like that for a significant reason, and not just the odd weekend inspiration. Maybe I should try to do that more often.
So this last weekend I got to see Hitchhiker's Guide. I think it would have been even funner rented. I also was over at someone's house and watched National Treasure. That was pretty fun, except it was never quite suspenseful, or terribly exciting. Not that you could figure out all of the details ahead of time, but it was always pretty evident what was going to happen, and how it was going to ultimately end up. Either that, or I'm just getting more sophisticated with age. Or something.
I got to see Finding Neverland last night at a friend's house. I had a great time, up until the the very end. It came up to this climactic moment full of wonder, and then cut to a couple of final scenes that completely blew any mood I might have been in with with unnecessary expository stuff. Am I too intelligent? Did someone assume that people are too unintelligent? Did someone unintelligent force the world to suffer their lack? I think I'm finally over being annoyed, though if I ever watch the movie again I'll have to stop when I get to a certain point.
