 Description:The fairy tale castle Il Borgia raises crenellated battlements above the historic N shore of Lake Trasimene near Perugia. Hannibal celebrated a great victory over Rome on the shores below. As the castle's name implies, it was once the home of some of the notorious Borgia family (remember Lucretia, Caesar, Pope Alexander VI). The location is perfect for visiting the unforgettable towns of Umbria: Perugia, Assisi, Orvieto, Todi, Spoleto, and Gubbio. Tuscany is right around the corner, as is Cortona. Siena and Florence or even Rome are within 2 hrs. drive. We mustn't forget the resort town of Passignano, below Il Borgia, with its charming lakefront embarcadero with restaurants and ferries to the interesting islands sprinkled across the lake. The castle's interior is spacious on a grand scale with much of the original architectural detail preserved. Furnishings are practical and comfortable if somewhat eclectic. The upper level rooms have views over the lake. A private woods surrounds the castle and there is a pool with bar and changing rooms. There is also a tennis court and outdoor dining areas.
