Somwhere in deep space, the Sol Bianca is cruising. Onboard, Jani is doing her exercise routine while May and June are su nbathing(?). June gets bored, and pulls the old "switch-weights-on-the-downstroke" gag. Jani is exceedingly unamused with this, and procedes to chase June all over the ship.(Is it just me, or do they play up the Jani/June rivalry from SB2 a bunch?) Feb mu mbles if the slave mines are still taking "candidates" after the pair nearly run her down. Jani corners June in the supply bay, but April interrupts, saying that she's unimpressed with their antics.
Meanwhile, May reports that the sensors have found a derelict ship floating near an asteroid zone. It's labeled as the "Mav'rick"(wonderful spelling the future will have), and Feb reacts strangely to this. Boarding the ship, they find its autopilot has been engaged since the owner had not broadcast a sign al to it on a regular schedule. The log also reveals something interesting: the planet the ship had been at conceals a small fortune in ancient artifacts. Feb mentions that Paladin would never leave clues this simple. "It sounds as if you knew this guy." asks Jani. "We did." replies Feb.
Retracing its journey, the crew finds the planet, a backwater one. Landing, they discover a huge cave, apparently the one they are looking for. It also looks like something out of "Indiana Jones" as well.Inside, alon g with the smart lines, they find a tablet with some writing. June gets annoyed when the others ask her what it means("Why does everyone expect ME to know everything?"), but Jani makes a guess that it's a warning...turning over the helmeted skull next to the entrance.
Suddenly Jani is attacked by some kind of plant-monster. The others whip out their guns and start shooting(much to the chagrin of Jani), but to no avail as it pulls her under. Underwater, Jani trips a switch on her suit, which explosive ly separates leaving her able to swim back to the surface. Five seconds later, it's sushi city time. At the surface, Jani gleefully tells the others she's alright, but her ear radio shorts out unexpectedly. "What else could possibly go wrong?" she mutters . At the bank, three more monsters are waiting.
"Me and my big mouth" Jani curses.
The dreaded "To Be Continued" sign comes up...
