The English used a doubling system of measurement starting with a muffet. The units of volume are given to the right:

Exactly how many jills would be equal to 12 muffets 6 georgies and 16 porgies? (Use a fraction or decimal, if necessary.)

1 georgie = 2 porgies

1 jack = 2 georgies

1 jill = 2 jacks

1 muffet = 2 jills

If the length of each side of the parallelogram at right is doubled, what will be the area, in square units, of the enlarged parallelogram?

 

3. If 2 workers take 6 hours to build a brick wall 12 m long and 4 m high, how long will it take 8 workers to build a brick wall 48 m long and 12 m high?

 

 

 

4. A cylindrical corn silo has a radius of 3 meters and a height of 18 meters. If a blower can load 1 cubic meter of corn in 3 minutes, how many hours and minutes (to the nearest minute) will it take to fill this silo with corn?

 

 

 

 

5. Carmel's favorite recipe for chocolate chip cookies makes 48 cookies and calls for 1 1/2 cups of sugar. Carmel wants to make a larger batch of cookie dough that will make exactly 120 cookies. How much sugar will she need to use in this larger batch?
