From the Observation Deck

by Dee Dickinson

This summer, we at New Horizons for Learning are working hard to remodel and update the Tool Room of our virtual Building. In line with higher academic standards and greater accountability, we wish to offer those who access our website a rich resource of principles, strategies, and tools that have been well documented to enhance academic achievement. We are fortunate to have working with us an outstanding group of experts in the fields of learning environments, critical principles in the teaching of literacy and math, identifying and working with individual differences, and implementing specific strategies including cognitive coaching, cognitive development, inquiry and project-based learning, accelerated learning techniques, assessment, service learning, and learning through the arts and technology. Each topic will include a list of current resources including experts, books, programs, and websites.

We look forward to receiving your thoughts and suggestions on other topics and resources to include. What are some strategies, tools, processes that you have found particularly effective? Favorite books and people who have inspired you? We are also always happy to report examples of great teaching "from the field." We'll have a grand opening in time for the new school year, but we will continue to add new materials as they come to our attention. Our Building will always remain more of a verb than a noun! Please let us hear from you by email at info@newhorizons.org.
