T-Mobile USA

When I Worked Here
November 2000 – The Present
How I Got Here
In the Fall of 2000 I found a new job at VoiceStream Wireless, a regional wireless carrier based in Bellevue, Washington. In 2001 VoiceStream was purchased by Deutsche Telekom, changed it's name to T-Mobile USA, and expanded it's service to cover the entire country. It has since grown to become the fourth largest wireless carrier in the US.
What I Am Doing Here
I started at T-Mobile as a Development Manager within the IT department, doing much the same as I had done at Saltmine. I spent three years in IT filling a number of management and technical roles before moving over to Sales Operations. I wanted to get "closer to the business" so that I could have a bigger impact on what really mattered — the ability of our systems to support our customers. For the last four and a half years I have been responsible for systems that the Sales department of T-Mobile uses to sell products and services and to manage customer's relationship with T-Mobile. Additionally, my people and technical skills have enabled me to get involved in a host of projects and initiatives that involve using technology to improve our products, services, efficiency, and profitability.
What I Am Learning Here
I continue to manage people. I continue to leverage technology. I continue to serve as a bridge between business people with a goal or need and technology people with skills and solutions. The increased number of 'cooks in the kitchen' has added a greater appreciation for the role of process and the ability to apply it intelligently to my skill set. Additionally, the long-term ownership of assets, products and services has brought an increased need to design and communicate a vision that speaks in terms of both long-term strategic objectives as well as short-term tactical goals.
