Cross Country

By the mid 1980's the cross-country trip, the backpack full of dreams, and the vague notions of enlightenment through travel were already very much out of fashion. I was painfully aware of this as I contemplated my options while in Ireland. I did not want to just wander aimlessly though — I wanted to do something with myself. The notion of travel for travel's sake just didn't seem like enough of a goal to me. And then there was college...

I had allowed myself to take a year off from school because I had a plan. Now that I had taken my trip (though a different one than I intended) I was determined to go back to college and finish it. I had a great trip, but I didn't feel that I should keep going. I wanted to go back to New Hampshire, get my degree and do this right.
